They bite, they bark, they chew up your furniture and they even pee in the house. What are you going to do? Your dog is jumping on your bed and doesn't stop when you say NO! Well, over the summer our family bought a two month old Bernese Mountain Dog, Tobee, who fit in to all these qualities and we didn't know what to do. We called Nick who trains dogs and Išll teach you, what he taught us. You can't be aggressive with your dog, because once she knows her commands all she needs is practice.
During the first class he explained to us that we had to have a different command for each thing she does. When they bark you say QUIET!, when they bite you say No BITE when they jump you yell OFF and when she picks up stuff you don't necessarily want her chewing you say LEAVE IT. After only one time she started to respond to our commands with a lot of reinforcement. The second class he taught us an exercise called PLACE. If one night we go to a friends house and want to bring her all we do is bring a blanket, and say Tobee Place, and she will go to it, lie down and stay there until we release her. This also took a lot of practice at home, and we haven't tried it anywhere else yet. During the first month she learns all that, and each session we reinforce it. Then when she turns six months you hire him again and he teaches her other commands.
Tobee was very happy to see Nick when he returned after a couple of months. Then we started with all new commands. First she learned HEEL, which means walking side to side with your feet aligned. If she pulls ahead you have to turn around, walk two steps then continue on your walk teaching her to stay close to you and to follow you. This command took a long time and she still doesn't know it perfectly, so it requires a lot of practice. You don't necessarily always want her to heel, so you also have a command called Lets Go, which means free walk, as far ahead or behind you, you want her. Then we continued with sit a very basic one, which she had learned the first month. It didn't take her very long to catch on. Then we did SIT, STAY, COME. We had to buy Tobee a pinch collar which does not her hurt at all. If she moved on STAY we would have to pull her leash giving her a small correction. She is very good and now the training is over. She is a very smart dog and learned very quickly.
Dog training involves a lot of work and dedication. The entire family has to participate because if one of us lets her get away with something just once then it will break what we taught her, because she'll know she can get away with it with that person. There are many types of collars you can buy your dog. You can buy a pinch collar, when you pull it, it pinches into her neck, a little pinch collar which is not metal and gives her a little choke which does not hurt the dog either. If neither of those are working you can get an electric collar. The electric collar goes around her neck like all collars and comes with a remote control. You can adjust the remote to high or low depending on how strong you want the electric shock to be. Training Tobee took a lot of hard work, but the results are worth the effort.
Now you can test your comprehension on my quiz!Good luck!
