In 1993, The X-files began airing Sunday Nights on Fox. It was an overnight cult classic, attracting Fox's most morbid teen and adult viewers, and making the show's creator Chris Carter very popuar among the network executives. It wasn't until almost two years later that the show became a widespread success.
The show's die hard fans call themselves X-philes. And for the most part they eat sleep and breathe The X-files. In short, their lives revolve around a television show. Now what I wonder, being a less psychotic x-phile myself, what these people are going to do with their lives after the contracts of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the actors who play Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, expire. What then? The show will be over and they'll have to get lives...
I, myself experience X-files withdrawal symptoms if I miss a new episode. The symptoms include constant bombardment of friends, in other words, repeatedly asking them if they saw the episode even if they already told you they didn't, furthered insanity (ie. rapid twitching--no joke) and other typical withdrawal symptoms.
The X-philes are classified in two VERY broad categories. The Shippers and the Noromos. The Shippers stand for the belief that the show's main characters should be romantically involved, branches of the belief include Finishippers who believe that they should become romantically involved, but only at the end of the series. The Noromos stand for the opposite, they believe that the two should NOT become involved because it will ruin the show. They include the Noromos who do not concern themselves with the romantic aspects of the show. Either way Shippers and Noromos alike all love a really great show.
