Tiger Woods
Eldrick T. Woods, otherwise known as Tiger, was born on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California. He attended Stanford University and he now lives in Orlando, Florida. Tiger turned professional and joined the PGA tour in 1996. One of his greatest accomplishments as of yet is his Green Jacket for the '97 Masters Tournament. Tiger's other interests include all sports, especially basketball and fishing.
The nickname, "Tiger," that was given to him was taken from his father's Vietnamese friend's name. Tiger became one of eight athletes to be named the Wheaties permanent rep. Tiger has won a total of $6,616,585 in 1999 alone and he is currently ranked number one on the PGA Tour. He has won a career total of sixteen tournaments including Augusta National in 1997.
Tiger started with golf at a very young age. From watching his father take practice swings in their backyard, to putting with Bob Hope on the "Michael Douglas Show." He also won the Optimist International Junior 6 times. He won at the ages of 8, 9, 12, 13, 14 and 15. From that point on, Tiger never slowed down.
Of Tiger's many career highlights, some really stand out. For example, after only eight tournaments as a professional, Tiger had two victories and 3 top-ten finishes. He was named golf's rookie of the year in 1996. He was also named the player of the year in 1997 where he won four tournaments and had nine top-ten finishes.
