The Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche are a hockey team. They play in North America so they are part of the National Hockey League. Of the two National Hockey League conferences they play in the Western. As well as the Western conference another denomination is the Northwest division. The other teams in the division are the Vancouver Canucks, the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. The coach of the Avalanche is Bob Hartley. The manager is Pierre Lacroix.

The first fact the I will share with you is that the Colorado Avalanche play their home games in the McNichols Sports Arena. The arena is in the Colorado capital which is Denver. Unfortunately the arena, will be shut down in the next few years. The Avalanche will move into a new arena, which has not been named yet. For the 1999-2000 season, the home of the Avalanche is still the McNichols Sports Arena. The arena is located at 1634 Clay Street in Denver, CO. The arena that the Avalanche play in is one of the biggest in North America having 16,321 seats. Only a few hockey arenas have that many seats, including of course the Molson Centre, here in Montreal.

The players on the Avalanche are very culturally diversed. They come from six different countries. They are, in order of percentage, Canada, United States of America, Russia, Czech Republic, Sweden and Latvia. Many of these players played on their respective teams for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. In total there were nine players, the most from any NHL team. Unfortunately, many of them played on Team Canada and did not please the fans. There was one player who did not disappoint and that was Alexei Gusarov. He and the Russian team finished a strong second behind the Czechs and Dominik Hasek.

I think the Avalanche are a very good team and they will be a very successful team in the upcoming season. For the season I don;t think that the problem is winning the division, but finishing top in the conference. This is so because the Canadian teams are usually not contenders for the top of the league. I hope my information has helped you about the Colorado Avalanche. I certainly enjoyed doing the project and I hope you did too. Of course, the most important thing is the you learned something from my paragraphs and that I learned something in my research!
