Cuenca

I've been to Spain several times. Six to be exact. My last name means "from the mountains" in Spanish. My family comes from a small city, south from Madrid. It's called Cuenca. It's on a cliff. The old city is built hanging off of it. You may have heard of the hanging houses? Well they're in Cuenca. The city was just named a historical landmark.

Cuenca has a population of about 40 000 people. The school ends at 2 o'clock because of the siestas. A siestas is when everybody stops working and takes a nap. This is because, during the summer, before the days of air conditioners, it was very hot. It's cooler in Cuenca because it is on top of a mountain, but it could still reach 40 degrees Celsius.

Along the streets, there are more than 100 bars. Spanish bar's aren't like the ones here, they're more like restaurants. Kids are allowed to enter. The food is very good. They serve paella and jambon serrano, my favourites.

I think you should visit this lovely town because it has everything you need to enjoy your trip; historical sites, delicious foods and breathtaking scenery.
